Union City Superintendent of Schools, Stanley "Sandy" Sanger, has been
part of the Union City Educational Team for 32 years with a long
history of service in the educational community. Beginning as a Social
Studies teacher, Mr. Sanger went on to become a principal at R. Waters
Elementary School (1982-1999). He then became assistant superintendent
(2000-2003) and, currently holds the honor of superintendent of schools
which he has held since July, 2003. Some of Mr. Sanger's long-list of
career highlights include the development Union City's Early Childhood
program and, under his leadership, the Union City Board of Education
Team has been awarded several million dollars in grant monies which are
allocated to community and student programs.
Mr. Sanger
attended Emerson High School in Union City. It was during his early
years as a student that he learned the importance of a good work ethic
and convictions to personal integrity. He went on to receive a
Bachelors degree from William Paterson University and a Master's degree
from Seton Hall University. When asked what one piece of advice he
would share with the students of Union City, Mr. Sanger said, "work
hard and strive to get along with all people in order to be
successful." He also believes that possessing a strong drive despite
economic and geographical limitations helps today's youth succeed.
When
not working, Mr. Sanger spends time with his family and sons and
participates in church activities. He is an avid runner, and has
participated in 15 New York City Marathons. His favorite books are the
Bible and Lawrence Sanders Novels. When asked who his hero is and why,
Sanger said "Jesus Christ, he is my savior."
