What's Happening in Union City...

  • The Union City Board of Education and Mayor Brian P. Stack conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Union City High School Student Sanctuary on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 24th Street and Kerrigan Avenue.  The Student Sanctuary will provide a tranquil are where students can study, contemplate and observe nature in three distinct learning spaces.  A lawn will provide passive space, while the amphitheater can attract poets, authors and pageantry.  Also, the rain garden feature will lend itself to student observations of botanical growth that is conducive to moister soils, in contrast to the other planting areas with the gardens.  This will be a very special place for all our students to enjoy, for many years to come.

  • The 2NDFLOOR: Youth Helpline, a confidential and anonymous helpline for New Jersey's youth and young adults, chose our Union City High School amongst many to host this important event in order to share the news of a grant awarded to them by Verizon which allows 2NDFLOOR to now provide services in Spanish between the hours of 4pm and 10pm.

The press conference was beyond successful with the participation and support of our Union City Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Stanley Sanger, Union City Commissioner Christopher F. Irizarry, Patrick Devlin, president of the New York Metro Region for Verizon Wireless, Anna Diaz-White, Executive Director of 180 Turning Lives Around, and our esteemed New Jersey Lt. Governor, Kim Guadagno.  After the press conference, our guests raved about our facility and the hospitality that we are well known for.
