You and the teacher share a deep concern for your child. There is no
better way to encourage your child’s growth than by working together to
meet her or his education needs.
The
goals of our parent involvement programs are to help children. By
helping your child’s teachers, you can offer students your experiences
and support. Your child’s teacher welcomes your support. By working in
your school, you will see how it works. With this new understanding,
you can give the school the backing it needs. You will learn more about
the classroom. You will enjoy helping children. You will be able to
give the teacher information about your child and your community. You
will learn new skills in working with children.
Teachers Need Your Help Today,
teachers want to use new methods and materials to give each child
personal guidance. When you assist teachers, you give them more time to
work with children. You allow them to be more effective teachers.
When
families are involved in their children’s education, children achieve
higher grades and test scores, have better attendance at school, do
more homework and behave better.
How You Can Be Involved As A Volunteer • Volunteer in the classroom • Volunteer after hours • Help combat illiteracy • Be a guest speaker • Help translate or interpret for others • Establish a telephone chain • Be a class parent volunteer for field trips or holiday parties • Chaperone a dance • Attend meetings and open houses
Qualifications For A Parent Volunteer The basic requirements are simple. You should: • Enjoy working with children • Have an interest in your public school and the community • Want to help • Be dependable and in good health. As you can see, it is very easy to qualify and the rewards are great.
How Much Time Do You Have To Spend At School? It’s
strictly up to you! You can work out a schedule convenient to you and
the teacher. If you have young children, you can make babysitting
arrangements with other volunteers. If you work during the day, you can
help by making things at home or helping with weekend activities.
Both
fathers and mothers should remember that it helps children to see
parents in the classroom–whether you come to school to tell children
about your job or work on a school project at home. Whatever time you
can give will be appreciated–it means more learning opportunities for
your child.
How Will You Work With The Teacher? You
will set your schedule and activities with the teacher you are helping.
He or she will give you suggestions. The program is based on a
partnership. The teacher plans learning activities, and you help by
encouraging students.
How Soon Can You Get Started? Right now-by volunteering your services!
