In
accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act, the Union City Board of
Education employs highly qualified teachers. We also provide you with
professional development opportunities. You will also learn and be able
to apply strategies to teach students who have a variety of needs and
learning levels.
Each year the Union City Board of Education and
Human Resources Department prepare a professional development action
plan. The goals are to strengthen and develop identified areas of need
as well as continue to build upon strengths and successes.
In
order to prepare a successful professional development action plan, we
look at the last year’s test data, student needs, student population,
the teacher population (for example, one-third of our teachers are
non-tenured), compliance issues such as school climate, parental and
community needs, and many other factors. Each school within the
District will seek teacher feedback which is important to us. The plan
also takes into account the six ways you can obtain the required 100
Hours of Professional Development: formal courses, workshops,
mentorship, internship, committee work, and grant writing / curriculum
development / action research.
As a result of the collaborative
professional development action plan, we have seen higher test scores
at all testing levels.
